Re: All Star Tournament Play

At the end of the 2009 season all regular season teams are disbanded and All Star teams are selected to compete in post-season play.  Corvallis Little League is eligible to field teams for the following tournaments: Baseball and Softball teams for ages 11-12, 10-11, 9-10, as well as a 13-14 softball team.  Baseball will field six teams. Softball will field up to four teams.  Post-season tournaments are played against teams from other leagues.

Players are selected to the teams by the managers of the appropriate league-age level. A player is eligible for selection if she or he has participated in over 60% of their team's regular season games.   To be selected for a post- season team is a privilege and an honor. It signifies that the player is recognized by fellow players, the managers, coaches and CLL officials as having the skills and character to represent our league.

The degree of commitment required of all players and their parents during post-season play is higher than required in the regular season. Practices will begin immediately after the announcement on June 15 th .   It is not uncommon for post-season teams to have nearly a daily practice between mid-June and the tournaments, which take place in the first half of July.  (Dates for the actual tournaments are often undetermined until an announcement in mid June.) In advance of the selection of teams, families will be asked about their ability to commit to practices and the tournaments.  Those who cannot be available for the All Star experience should make this clear to managers as soon as possible so that players who can commit to the teams may be selected.

Finally, players and parents should understand that the minimum play requirement for all-stars is one at-bat and three defensive outs. Some players will only play the minimum and others will play much more, consistent with the higher level of competitiveness in the All Star tournaments.

If selected to a team, and ready to commit to the team, a player's family will need to anticipate providing proof of age and proof of residency documentation (to be described later).  There is a $50 charge to participate in All Stars (for uniforms, insurance, etc.) and families will need to plan on travel expenses to and from Salem for the District tournaments.

The All Star experience is a fun and challenging experience that we encourage all players and families to take seriously by being available and by congratulating those who are selected to the teams.

Sincerely,
Corvallis Little League Board of Directors
