For Parents of Softball Players

We’re glad that your family wants to be involved with the Corvallis Little League softball program.  Last season almost 200 girls played on 14 teams, and at least 90 adults volunteered as managers, coaches, umpires, and team parents.   

This sheet provides a few more details that you will need for this year.

Equipment

Mandatory Tryouts for Minor, Major, Junior leagues

All players registering for Minor, Major or Junior leagues must complete the tryouts to be assigned to a team.

Team Formation

Teams will be formed by March 12 and coaches will contact players by March 15.  See second page for more information about the various league levels.

Scheduling/Important Dates

Minor, major and junior leagues will participate in some inter-league play with other cities.  These leagues will also be able to participate in several District 7 weekend tournaments during the season. More details to come.

Softball League Descriptions

Junior League (Ages 13 & 14 on January 1, 2010)

Two teams of approximately 12 players.  Season runs from third week
of April until mid-June. Average of two-three games per week.  Interleague
play with Albany, Eugene, and Salem.  Usually, an All Star team is selected to compete at District level in late June, early July.  Players must play 2 innings in the field per game and have at least one at-bat.
           
Major League (Ages 10 through 12 on January 1, 2010)
Three to four teams of approximately 12 players.  Season runs from third week
of April until mid-June.  Average of two games per week. A few interleague
games with Albany and Salem.  Usually, an All Star team of 11 & 12 year olds is selected to compete at District level in late June, early July.   Players must play 2 innings in the field per game and have at least one at bat.  Official 12” ball is used.  Games run 2½ hours and end close to 8:00pm.

Minor League (Ages 9 through 11 on January 1, 2010)
Four teams of 11 or 12 players.  Season runs from third week of April until early June.  May play a couple games in Albany.  Players pitch (unless league chooses to temporarily allow coaches to assist.)   Average of two games per week.  Usually, an All Star team of 9 & 10 year olds is selected to compete at District level in late June, early July.  Full roster bats; players must play 2 innings in the field per game and have at least one at bat.  11” ball is used.  Games run 2 hours and end by 7:30pm.

Rookie League (Ages 6 through 9 on January 1, 2010)
Five teams of 11 or 12 players.  Season runs from fourth week of April until late June.  Average of two games per week.  All games in Corvallis unless a special event is planned with another league.  Coaches pitch and safety ball (10” softie) is used.  No score or standings are kept.  6-year-olds wishing to play in Rookie League will need to have at least one year of T-ball experience. Games are limited to 5 innings or 1½ hours, ending no later than 7:30pm.

T-ball (Ages 5 & 6 on January 1, 2010)
Run through baseball division. Co-ed play; 12 game schedule.  Players bat from tee; safety baseball is used.  Games start at end of April and run through late June (about 2 per week)
