Position Descriptions
- Manager: Team managers are responsible for all team activities and actions. This includes organizing a team meeting for the players’ parents before the first practice, for scheduling and running team practices and leading their team at baseball games. They are also responsible for distribution and return of Corvallis Little League equipment and uniforms at the end of the season. Please check in at the coach/manager table at registration if you are interested. Typically, you will be at every practice and game. You will also communicate with the parents with the help of a Team Parent. You also communicate with the Player Agent.
- Coach: Coaches assist managers in the running of their teams. Coaches are asked to attend the same training clinics as described above for managers. Coaches also should be familiar with the official Little League rulebook and the code of conduct. Coaches must model good sportsmanship at all times. Please check in at the coach/manger table at registration if you are interested.
- Team Parent: Helps the manager communicate with the parents (e.g., last-minute rained out practice), creates snack schedule and organizes team events and anything else that comes up. This can take some time, but very often you can make your own schedule.
- Umpire (Baseball): Each minor and major baseball teams must have two umpire volunteers because the home team is responsible for providing the plate umpire and the visiting team will provide the base umpire for each of their games. Umpire training clinics are offered in April before games begin. Umpires will be issued official rulebooks, umpire hats and shirts. New umpires should probably be assigned to ‘base’ duties while more experienced umpires work behind the plate. It will be up to the managers and umpire volunteers of the teams playing to decide where each will be positioned.
- Umpire (Softball): District 7 attempts to provide umpires for Junior and Major games however, there are not enough umpires to cover all games. Each Junior and Major team must have two volunteer umpires available as backups for home games. Umpire training, specific to Softball will be offered in February, prior to games beginning and all volunteer umpires will be provided with an official rule book and umpire shirts. Umpire gear is kept at the concession stand at Williams Field. It is important for CLL to develop umpires and so a Junior Umpire program is being created in 2024 for HS and College students who may have played LL in the past. they will serve as plate umpires for our Minor games and base umpires for our Major and Junior games if needed.
Umpires are critical to the operations of the league, and will be treated with respect by all managers, coaches, parents and players. If there are problems of this nature, the Little League board will deal with the swiftly. The umpire is in control of the game on the field. His or her decisions are final during a game. Corvallis Little League has adopted a zero tolerance policy for poor behavior by parents, coaches or players directed towards game officials. There is no warning: the first offense results in the offender leaving the field of current game and a suspension for the next game at minimum.
- Field Maintenance: Help with setup of the fields to be playable at the beginning of the season.
- Field Preparation: Before each game, in every league, the home team is responsible for preparing the field. This requires raking and chalking the field, applying drying agent to we spots, and perhaps putting down bases. The equipment necessary to do this job is stored in the container near the concession stand. Each team should have several parents willing to take on their responsibility of the managers and coaches can spend their pre-game time getting the team ready to play.
- Scorekeeper: Two scorekeepers are recommended for each minor and major team. The home team scorekeeper will keep the official book for teach game. A training clinic will be held for scorekeeper volunteers. For Softball all teams will use the Gamechanger program.
- Concession Organizer (Softball): The concession organizer will ensure that concessions is staffed at Williams Field when their team is playing.
- Safety Parent: As the team Safety Parent you are responsible for ensuring your team has adequate first aid supplies, takes care of player injuries and reporting injuries to the Safety Officer.
- Recycle (Baseball and Tee Ball): Each team must provide a parent to gather and deposit recycling items after each game. Recycling bins from each field need to be taken to the large recycle receptacles located behind the concessions trailer, emptied and returned to the field.
- Monday recycle volunteers are responsible for taking the large bins from the concessions area and placing them at the curb for pickup.
- Tuesday’s volunteers should bring the bins back to the concessions area where they arrive.
- Board of Directors: Elections are held annually for the Board of Directors. Please contact any Director if you are interested in participating on the Board. Please Help!
